At a time when purse strings are tight, the Gophers are shelling out $800,000 to avoid two football games with North Carolina.

If the Gophers water down their schedule anymore they'll be playing the likes of UMD and Macalester! Part of building a winning football program includes no longer being a joke! Unfortunately, paying $800,000 to avoid a welter-weight like NC football is the very definition of being a joke!

What an absolute embarrassment and blow to the program. Many if not most fans believe Kill is not the answer, and now he proves it. Begging off below average opponents to get to opponents in lower divisions is so cowardly, I can't even contemplate how Kill and Teaque could have even broght it up. they have to give away free tickets to get people to watch their crap product, and now this? Who hired these people? Where are the Regents? Eight Hundred thousand dollars down the drain, and yet Kahler tells the legislature to give him millions more in appropriations so he won't raise tuition? What is going on at that "universirt"

Great reporting Chip! The "U" is so protected by fans such as joesherman and much of the local media that it's refreshing to see somebody call them out. Spending $800,000 to get out of a game vs. a ACC also-ran is embarassing. Jerry Kill was supposed to move from the MAC up to the Big 10, not take the Gophers down to the MAC.

There really needs to be a revolt by the fan base and alumni. This should also be the story of the year. Thank you Chip!

Jerry Kill needs to be let go, as this is a football coach who does not deserve to be in charge of a major football program. He is SCARED!

Great hire by the regents and Dave Mona who I believe was involved in the hiring of Kill. Again, we Gopher fans and alumni need to keep this in the eye of the public, and demand some type of action to take place on those involved in this decision that cost taxpayers this amount of money.

if we get one more win than we might get to a bowl game and profit more than 800k? but we might have to beat northwestern at home. oof.

Pathetic. Any interest in the program and potential respect for Kill vanish by this act alone.

This is Mason-like. I always knew we would have a good Big 10 season if we won these games by a 50-10 average. Killjoy's goal is the same, go 2-6 in conference and go to a nothing bowl game.

QUESTION: Why is not headline news on this website, in the newspaper, and on the WCCO news? It needs to be, as you are talking about a lot of money allocated from us taxpayers for no reason other than Jerry Kill trying to pad his win/loss record to hopefully save his job, a job he obviously cannot handle, as the stress level is so much that he is suffering seizures.
