For Kill critics in the recruiting area ... please note a few things. 1. Nobody has even cared about Gopher football for the better part of 50 years! This will not change overnight and it wouldn't change overnight no matter who was the coach. 2. It will take a MN High School football cultural shift /paradigm shift as there hasn't been ANY relationship between U of M Football and MN High School Football coaches on an on going - let alone even a sporadic basis. Something Kill is changing. 3. Kids who are recruited to "elite schools" such as Stanford, Notre Dame and the Ivies ... well they are probably going to go there no matter who the coach is. But something which needs to be sold to recruits are the world class business and engineering schools at the U of M. 5. Kill hasn't really had even 2 full seasons on the job. For where the program was- it will take a full cycle of 4 years of recruiing and then at least 1.5 seasons beyond that to see how effective Kill is. My bet? By the end of next season we will have a very respectable football club. Kill is the man!

After Saturday's beatdown in Madtown...we will see a big uptick in recruiting, right 56? Kill is the man!!

Even Mason started having difficulty recruiting once Minnesota had to tell recruits they were going to play outside. Weather is a huge factor in this northerly city. Every other Big Ten school location is always so many degrees warmer and more importantly,THE PERCECPTION IS Minnesota IS FREEZING COLD. Maybe the U of M has to put together data on global warming and sell that to recruits. A kid in Mississippi watches the Vikings on TV playing in the Metrodome and soon in a new indoor stadium and would prefer to play on that same field. When you add to this issue Kill's seizures, there is less chance this coach can attain Mason's level of winning in the Big Ten.

Mason and Gutey won 40% of their Big Ten games (only way to compare). I don't think Killjoy will make that meager bar.

Passing on the chance to share a $1,000,000,000 taj ma hall stadium with the Vikings has been one--and there have been many--of stupidest things the U of M has ever done. 6 recruits as of 10/15 and the rest of the Big 10 is finished with their 2013 classes = pure failure.

I would have to agree, the Gophers should have held off and built a stadium with the Vikings. What kid from a southern state would want to come here and play in possible -10 degrees in November without a dome around them? I hope that Kill can start keeping kids here at the U of M. They need to start winning, even in small steps. I also wish that the kids themselves would look at the U of M first before even thinking of playing somewhere else. I wonder what would happen if Kill just recruited in MN only, and played those kids no matter what talent they had? At least those kids could say they played and not sat on a bench in some cozy southern school!!

Believe it or not, most recruits want to play football and get a college degree. To differentiate between competing schools, they choose based on coaching staff, athletic facilities and the intangible of "campus life". Jerry Kill is an excellent choice for the U of M and the facilities are, for now, among the best. As for the climate, I simply don't believe it matters to the kid if the other factors are there. Climate matters more to the fans, who will turn out regardless if the team is good (recalling the Vikings of the late 60s/early 70s).

"What kid from a southern state would want to come here and play in possible -10 degrees in November without a dome around them?" So they won't play outside in MN but will go and play outside in WI and Iowa? If WI and Iowa can recruit and win with outdoor stadiums so can MN. Also, the dome was lame and did little to help recruit players.

Have to agree that the open-air stadium was foolish. We said it all along, the stadium was NOT the reason the football team was bad. But the local sportswriters and U administration declared otherwise. My concern was getting enough fans to sit outside in the cold, dreary weather when the TC has so many other options for someone to blow their $ on. I thought we'd be able to get more than 6 recruits in a class. This could get ugly. I don't think Kill has very much to do with it. We would have the same issues with him or anyone else as coach. The program has been this way for over 40 years.
