Scoggins: What we're hearing about Gophers' improvement isn't what we're seeing

The notion that this season would be better was spoken but certainly wasn't backed up in two Big Ten failures.

Chip, you nailed it with this column. I was at the game, and the play calling, execution and bothched snaps had me thinking that Tim Brewster had snuck back into TCF Bank stadium. I think Jerry Kill is a good fit for this program, but he was schooled today by NW HC Pat Fitzgerald. One gigantic step back today.

Blame Maturi for not hiring Lane Kiffin when he wanted this job so badly. We are toasts folks.

Wisconsin may win by 100. Another disaster, another experiment with a low budget unprepared coach gone bust. And he already has an extension? Obviously th "U" is NOT an institution of higher learning.

Just to get back to Brewster levels we are going to have to win 3 conference games and reach a bowl game.

Chip is generally correct - there were some odd play calls and way too many fumbles & penalties. But that said, Scoggins saying he doesn't want to hear that they're a young team - well, you don't want to hear reality? They are a young team, and a big part of their problems today stemmed from that. The O-line has zero seniors and only a couple jrs and about 5 or 6 guys injured. There's just no continuity there and I think we've only got 2 of the original starters left in there. The 8 guys who rotate in to the 4 D-Line spot include 1 SR & 2 JRs, and the gaping holes against the run are largely guys screwing up their assignments. The special teams today were absolutely atrocious and the play of the LB's has been bad. But people, Rome ain't built in a day. Things are never as good as they seem after a win (Chip, you never should've been thinking Rose Bowl) and they're never as bad as they seem after a loss. People, there's no opponent of the remaining 6 that's close to unbeatable. If the Gophers can put together a solid effort, they should have several more chances for W's this year.

He bolted from Tennessee after one year, how long would he have taken to put THIS program in the rear view mirror? He would have been out of here faster than Lou Holtz.

"Forget about that quarterback controversy nonsense. The Gophers need Gray to operate their offense if they have any hope of preventing this season from circling the drain."---Does anyone else remember who was stirring the quarterback "controversy" just a couple of weeks ago. Here's a hint: look at Chip's last few columns. Looks like he's moving on to a new meme. Throwaway article.

"And don't forget about the fade pass on 4th down at the end. How about some quick slants and crosses? Give Shortell a couple of options."---They ran a slant to Barker on the previous play. Shortell threw it behind him and it go batted down.

Five of the past six decades have been losing decades, and the Gopher football program is working on a seventh. That's a lot of failure for a very, very, very long time.

Killjoy also burned 2 more redshirts. With the weak talent he's bringing in, these kids need 5 years of college to reach their 2 or 3 star ability.
