It's about freedom (which is not exclusive), and it's about the embrace of tradition.

This is a reason that I think that allowing gays to marry is inevitable. If those who label themselves as conservative would hearken back to their roots (the government should not dictate a person's personal life), they will realize that this issue is actually in line with their goal of less government intrusion. Especially when, despite the scare stories of some, there is no evidence that allowing gay marriage hurts anyone.

Wow, yet another well-written commentary that lays out good reasons to vote down the gay marriage amendment. Still waiting for the first well-thought-out essay in support of the amendment...... Might be waiting awhile.

If conservatives were smart, they would all adopt this position. They would wipe up in elections.

Such sensible, simple words. Bravo, sir. And as a rather conservative fellow for quite some time (who happens to believe anyone who wishes to marry should be able to do so), it is refreshing to see that someone can consider being conservative and honoring this idea can co-exist. I just don't see the problem to the enormity that the anti-marriage group sees it and is driven to their actions. Has anyone heard of a good reason, yet, other than just sheer opposition?

Beautifully written, philosophically consistent, logically flawless. Thank you!

@reid, I have probably asked for evidence from either states or countries that have legalized gay marriage of its negative effects, and so far, the crickets have been chirping. One pro-amendment person even responded to the opinion piece by the daughter of lesbian mothers that she had been subject to child abuse! That is some scary thinking!

"""Has anyone heard of a good reason, yet, other than just sheer opposition?"""...... Sure, it's that you choose not to listen. The destruction of marriage in America has already brought us a generation of lost children. This is undeniable in record illegitimacy rates, suicide rates, depression rates, ADD rates, poverty, etc. Anybody deny this? Are our kids thriving? Anybody? No, the child data is beyond sad, it's ugly ;oQ The good news, keep pushing this "freedom for all and any about anything" will ensure 80% illegitimacy rates within a few more decades. And the health of the Republic? Well, did you see Detroit police handing out warnings that nobody go into Detroit....it's coming, it is coming.

Wow, yet another commentary that lays out reasons to vote down the gay marriage amendment. Still waiting for the first well-thought-out essay allowed in the Stibune, newspaper of the lyin' left, in support of the amendment...... Might be waiting awhile.

Conservatives talk about how evil 'social engineering' is when it comes to things as trivial as whether or not we can buy a 50 oz soda, but when it comes to marriage they're all in favor of having the government pick which activities are supposedly good for society.

The article references the "intent of our creator". The intent of our creator was to have man marry woman, not man marry man or woman marry woman. If we are going to start mixing politics with religion, then let's at least get the facts straight.
