You just have to shake your head at the "if it moves, shoot it" crowd. Hunting is fine, but time and dollars have been spent bringing this species back from the brink. Look what we have done to the moose population. Who is running the DNR, Smith and Wesson?

The animal rights groups have little if nothing to stand on in their cause that this is detrimental to the overall population. Wolf hunts that have been held in western states and have shown a poor success rate in harvest, even with many more permits than were awarded in MN. Montana boasted a less than 1% harvest rate one season. It's nice to see common sense win once in awhile. Most outdoorsmen appreciate and value wildlife just as much as non-hunters, and also put back more into habitat & conservation than the "non's and anti's" combined.

Minnesota can never win national sports championship, but it may be the only state in America with a pro team named after an animal that is fair game in that state.

And again, what does the DNR care about public input? Yes, people had their say but they did what they wanted anyway. Their own survey showed majority opposed.

The groups opposing the hunt are disingenuous. The Federal government started trying to delist the wolf 10 years ago and the state said there would be a 5 year period before hunts started. Since then two 5 year periods have come and gone. These groups had plenty of time to get their points across, and all of their arguments have been dismissed. Wolves are not icons, they are not symbols, they are just one part of a dynamic ecosystem that we have chosen to manage. To hold one species above and beyond the others as an object of worship puts all other species at a disadvantage.

These animal rights activists some how feel that because they have been to Ely one time and have purchased a WWF button that they are now experts in wolves.

It was a special interest group voicing their feelings. The Department of Natural Resources is using scientific population models from several sources to observe, project, and quota the population. Sorry folks, but good science has won over emotion.

Wrong wrong wrong. Maybe Klobuchar, Dayton, et al will discover exactly how much Minnesotans value their wolves. Vote wolves, vote wildlife.
