Souhan: Playoffs remain one world for Kevin Love to conquer

Kevin Love is nearing the top of his profession. In four NBA seasons he's progressed, improbably, from chubby project to franchise player.

Chubby? Love was never chubby. Maybe he looked a little soft, but he was never chubby. He won't put up monster numbers this year because he won't have to. Look what happened when KG went to a team filled with talent. His stats noticeably diminished, but he won a championship playing a role, and they needed every thing he contributed. Love can be that same piece for the Wolves, and make the team better because of it.

I look forward to watching this team this year and hope for the best. It should be fun. However, the NBA is not the NFL. "Parity" is a word that the rich teams have banned from all NBA arenas. Somehow, the NBA is going to have to come up with a way to prevent super stars from congregating on a few teams. Until that happens, there will be two levels in the NBA. Pretty much the have nots, and the loaded teams.

I think it was pretty cool for the leader of the Wolves to step up and be an impact player for his USA team in the Olympics. Love showed by example, at a very high level, what it takes and how important it is to do your part in team play when he played in the Olympics. He had already earned a leadership position with the Wolves but his Olympic effort solidified his standing with the Wolves. I also really like the fact that this Wolves team has three medal winners from this years Olympic competition on the team.

Playoffs? I'm not sure they can make the playoffs this season. Rubio is going to be out until Christmas. This team hasn't been good without Rubio. If they only win 5 games before Rubio comes back they never make the playoffs. The west is stacked again.

I don't remember the coaches name, but someone shared once (and it's very true in the NBA) that it's easy to get to 40 wins, but very difficult to reach the 50+ win elite status. We'll see. I know we're better, and with Adelman's direction, we've certainly fine tuned the roster in a way that's exciting. How good are we? We'll soon find out.
