Hmmm the organized Church doing it's best to crucify someone who believes in caring for all people first. Why does that ring a bell?

Rev. Mike Tegeder is brave beyond words for his stance on this issue. He is called by God to tend all of his flock, and not to demonize anyone. He truly gets it.

Father Tegeder is living his life as Jesus asked we all do -- love God above all and others as yourself -- and as Vatican II taught us -- when push comes to shove, after thoughtful consideration, what your own conscience insists is right is what you must do. The archbishop's conscience, on the other hand, has apparently led him to membership in a movement that includes other extremely conservative bishops and priests who wish to return to a pre-Vatican II church that ruled by fear instead of leading with love.

Look Tegeder, you belong to the Catholic Church. The church has rules and a position on gay marriage you disagree with. Either get with the program or do the honorable thing and resign. Enough of the whining already. Go find a 'church' that agrees with you and stop banging your head against the wall with this one. Trust me, you don't know better than the Catholic Church.

A man of courage and conviction, passion and justice. A Christian, in other words. Thanks Jon for this important story.

Two clarifications: First and importantly, I support the Catholic teaching on marriage. Indeed, I witnessed a Catholic wedding last weekend and have one this coming weekend. But the amendment is not about Catholic marriage otherwise it should also prohibit divorce as did the former Irish constitution. The church should not be dictating about civil marriage. Second, my mother wishes Mr. Tevlin had written, "mild expletives." Thank you all for your support on this crucial issue of constitutional rights. Blessings, Father Mike Tegeder

"He just got here" is an argument for the Archbishop to be quiet? OK, compared to the 2000 year history of the church, Father Tegeder just got here. His opinion is just soup du jour in that context.

50 years ago this week the Second Vatican Council convened with its message that the sacrament of baptism empowers Catholics to speak in church. We are fortunate that clergy like Fr Tegeder remember the words of the hierarchy and allow Catholics of baptism and conscience to live their faith.

The RCC has every right to say who it will and will not marry. It has no moral right to try to dictate to non-Catholics. I'm Catholic born and raised, but I'm ashamed of their misuse of precious money and energy on this pointless political exercise.
