"Germany is viewed by many Greeks as the primary enforcer of the austerity measures..."---------------------------No. The primary enforcer is the fact that your government's cupboard is bare and the cupboard itself is in hock. Your government cannot give you all the stuff it promised because it doesn't have it to give. When they promised utopia and taxed the hell out of you to pay for it, you should have been checking their math! And you're angry with the Germans? The Germans who are generously keeping your country from falling into total insolvency and anarchy?
Greece brought this necessary austerity on itself. It's citizens are well known for not paying income taxes, having salaries way too high, early retirement and too high pensions. Give thanks to Germany.
And now all of Europe is hoping that Germany will write the big big check to save all of Europe, which includes Greece. And do not forget that Merkel is now running for re-election. She does not want to nor have to send hundreds of billions (now closing in on one trillion) to the other countries that are nearly broke. The people of Germany are very good workers and still have the work ethic, which many others no longer have. If the people of Greece keep on yelling at Germany then they deserve what they get, which will be nothing.
We in America need to be paying close attention to this situation. This is a lesson that we cannot afford to ignore.
