It wasn't that big of a deal, and the Ref was a little over assertive. Plus Roger Goodell was at the game and he said on the pre-game that one of his twin daughters is a big Vikings fan. A Minnesota Twin, I guess. So Smith gets a break.

Agreed. A fine wouldn't have been ridiculous, a suspension would have been. It was not a big deal but maybe a good lesson for Smith to cool it when the ref steps in to avoid anything like this in the future.

I agree with kennyrogers. The ref over-reacted, Smith was already well clear of the pile but the ref kept on pushing..2 yards would have been plenty.....I want the replacements back

One thing not mentioned enough is how well Harrison Smith has been playing as starting safety. I like his aggressiveness and his tenacity. Yeah, he shouldn't have pushed the ref away. He admits his mistake and I'm glad the league office is dropping the matter there. I don't want our players to commit unnecessary penalties. But I do want them playing confidant, determined and with a chop on their shoulder. I hope the Vikings coaching staff keeps ofering Smith more encouragement than lectures. I think Smith has a lot of potential and I'm hoping to see him reach greater heighths. Soon. Skol Vikings!

This kid hits with authority but has to temper it somewhat after the play is over. Go until the whistle blows then stop.

What's the scoop with John Carlson? Wasn't this guy supposed to make a big contribution?

puckluck77Oct. 9, 1210:57 AM

Smith's been playing pretty well for a rookie at Safety. We may be looking at a future probowler at Safety. Havent had that since Joey Browner. Josh Robinson's speed at CB has helped a lot. With the style of play in todays NFL you need some burners back there to cover the territory. Keep up the good work! Go Vikes!

Wonder how long, Frazier is going to stick with Carlson. Probably his 25 million dollar contract, has a little bit to do with keeping him as one of the top two tight ends. I believe in starting our best players, and at this point it looks like Rhett Ellison should be starting, over Carlson.

bengravedOct. 9, 1212:12 PM

Just one more comment about Carlson. It seems like he cannot get separation. The two passes that were thrown to him, both close to the line of scrimmage, probably should have not been thrown. Defensive guy right next to him, and he was immediately tackled. A one yard loss, and a two yard gain. Not much production for a twenty five million dollar man.

There should be team discipline, up to and including not starting him the first series on Sunday - let him sit that first series as a reminder that he has to remain calm and not hurt his team.
