This "overhaul" strikes me as a halfway measure. Obviously, the first base and third base coach had little to do with setting the clubhouse culture compared to Gardenhire and Anderson. Assigning Varva, who doesn't speak Spanish, to mentor the infield makes little sense. What this does do is put RG and RA on notice that if a repeat of early 2011 and 2012 takes place in 2013, they may both be gone. Much will depend on what the starting rotation looks like. We shall see.

This team's biggest problems for YEARS have been situational baseball and pitching. So the coaches in charge of those aspects of the game are kept and the peripheral coaches are let go. Who exactly thinks that makes any sense?

Unless the new coaches can pitch this change is not going to result in more wins.

So funny how the Twins lose 95+ games the past two season and the FO feels the best thing to do is to clean house with the coaches, not the manager. ??? I'm not anti-Gardenhire, but it is fairly astounding that a manager can weather mid-90s+ in losses, back-to-back, and still keep his job. It may be until Byron Buxton shows up before the Twins make their way back to .500. We're talking early 80s/late 90s type of Twins teams.

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy resigned because of the teams worst season in franchise history. Now that was an honorable thing to do. Where is your dignity Ronald Gardenhire?

I am disappointed that Gardenhire stays while his friends are fired. The Twins need a new leader, a new voice in the clubhouse. But instead of firing Gardenhire they fire those that are working for him. That is a bass ackwards way of doing things. If you look at the big picture, and base your decisions on what is best for the team, the answer is obvious. But this is Minnesota Nice that has gone to Minnesota Stupid. Do the right thing and give Gardenhire a chance to manage somewhere else and bring in a new leader for this underachieving group.

None of this makes any sense. The end.

myinsight: Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy resigned because of the teams worst season in franchise history. BALLFOUR: But not because of the record. Because of what those above him did late in the season, including removing some of his oversight.

It all comes down to lousy starting pitching, but to fire assistant coaches is rediculous. Upper management should be ashamed of themselves. If I were Gardenhire I would quit these bums.
