Amazing how our Vikes are still managing to fly largely under the radar, although they do get decent praise when they are noticed. That's ok, I don't mind us sneaking up on people at all! Heck, not even this site fully respects them. The list of standings on the Strib's main Vikings page still has them in second place to Chicago in the division. rightly has them in first place, because of their having a better division record (for now, anyway) than the Bears.

simply terrific on all dimensions - players, coaches, team mgmt, and fans

I feel Pug is a great coach...look what they did to Philly when he first took over. Last year was a tough year for the Defense because they were depleted due to injuries. Pug is still there because the Vikings know he is a good coach. SKOL Vikings!,

I remember a few posers/posters on here saying it was going to be 4 to 5 years before a turn around. It doesn't take that long folks in the NFL. Not the MLB.

I am as happy as anyone that the Vikes are 4-1 at this point. Lets not get too excited and plan a super bowl trip just yet. The schedule will be getting much more challenging as the season goes on. It does look like a 9-7 or 10-6 record is more realistic than it was before the season began, and that is a great improvement over the last couple of years.

Undeniably a fun time to be a Vikings fan, but don't forget that there are 11 regular-season games and at least two (more realistically three) playoff wins before Super Bowl XLVII. Ponder is probably at least two years from being a developed NFL quarterback: he has yet to face a must-win situation and how he performs in those situations will pretty much define his status. Harvin is off-the-charts good so far in 2012 but the spectre of those migraines never really goes away. What will AP's knee be like after Game 14 instead of just Game 5? How will the Vikings handle their last 6 games when four of them are against the Packers and Bears? Those are just some of the issues that will loom large in 2012. Enjoy it for now, but there is a lot we still don't know about Vikings V. 2012.

I keep expecting the wheels to fall off, but lo and behold, this team doesn't crumble. Needless to say, what appears to be a glowing weakness; lack of the deep ball, hasn't hurt them yet, but certainly will if they fall behind early, have to play catchup against tougher teams; Bears, Pack. Hope they get this taken care of, Ponder does have a decent arm. If so, they'll turn into a completely balanced team.

Ponder is right. They should be 5-0 if they did not kill themselves with penalties in the loss to the Clots.

You can't talk about New Standards without mentioning "missed tackles" or an impressive lack of. I started noticing it last week and then again yesterday: first purple helmet to the ball carrier, almost always made the tackle. It's a long season. A lot can and will happen between now and then. But anyone who claims not to see a large measure of improvement from this team is either blind or a fool.

Winning definitely is more fun than losing, but I'm trying not to get overly excited just yet. Thrilled to death that some of the young, early AND late-round picks are playing well - Guion, Brinkley, Cook, Robinson, Fusco, etc. For all of you who have been trashing Spielman... this is how you build a team and it's obvious he has some knowledge and ability. Give the man some credit. And then shut up! As for the rest of this year, the schedule gets tough. The last 6 games are ridiculous. Like I said, I'm trying to keep my expectations low, but this could be good. And the future looks bright.
