What will happen after the US leaves Afghanistan? I can hardly wait. One thing is for sure we won't be fighting another needless war! Perhaps we can use those human and financial resources to improve our country! USA first! That means fixing our schools, health care, infrastructure, crime, etc.

What will happen after we leave Afghanistan? Women will be virtually enslaved, again. Religious tolerance will cease to exist. Education will return to teaching kids how to be martyrs for Allah (Allah speaking through the local warlord, of course). Anyone who cooperated with the US will be hunted down. And there's not a dang thing we can do about it. Unless, maybe, perhaps, we can do something with the civil population like we did with North Korean prisoners of war in 1953. Set up camps where people can be screened to see if they want to leave Afghanistan and then take in (to the US) anyone wanting to leave and legitimately afraid for their lives or well being.

What does afghanistan really think of the US? Check this out from AFP news on Oct 2: "Afghanistan's senate voted to cut the word 'friendship' from a pact with France because Islamic texts say it cannot be used to describe relations between Muslims and infidels, senators said Tuesday. Afghanistan has signed partnership agreements with several countries, including the United States, but none of the others had included the word 'friendship', said Senator Nesar Ahmad Haress.

svfara: Oh how I wish you were right, but the simple fact remains that some politicians will always find another war. Cheney's comment to the legislators he was lobbying was that we need to increase spending to the military, "for the next war." And guess who echoes those sentiments? No, mistakes have been made in Afghanistan; we learned nothing or choose to ignore the lessons of Vietnam and the day after Bin Laden was killed, Obama should have stood before the American people, declared that our mission there was accomplished, and started the troops heading home. After we leave in a couple of years, this is not going to end well... however, if we left in another 25 years, this would not end well. There is a common denominator here, and most Americans see it, but some still don't. Enough

PS... I would love to be a mouse in the corner of the Kremlin, and listen to their thoughts about the Americans in Afghanistan.

What will happen after the US leaves Afghanistan (assuming we actually get around to doing it)? We'll probably find someone else to invade, since our idea of "national defense" is actually offense nowadays. Maybe we can hit Iran since they're right next door to Afghanistan. Hey, maybe that's the real reason we've been there so long in the first place, just keeping our spot so we can use it as a staging ground to hit Iran too.

When we leave Afghanistan, obviously it will remain largely as it was, and, the USA will continue to reap what it has sown. It is a legacy of waste, hubris, death, and greed, that "we the people" are apparently powerless to stop.

We were almost out of Afghanistan in 2008 when Obama was elected. But, he had to "look tough," so he surged a bunch of our troops into the place, at the same time announcing that we would withdraw in 2014.
