Hartman: Sullivan says Vikings can't have letdown

  • Article by: SID HARTMAN , Star Tribune

John Sullivan, the leader of the Vikings offensive line, said the team has done well to start 3-1, but at the same time, this is one of those situations where they have to guard against getting too high.

Easy solution, Gardy out, Brunansky in. Problem solved.

Said the future pro-bowl center? Give me a break. Next thing Hartman will be saying the whole viking team are pro-bowlers. Our whole offensive line, has been playing great football, and if anyone of them, has a chance at being a pro-bowler, it will be Kalil. Our other first rounder, Smith has a chance to be a pro-bowler, if he keeps playing, like he did last Sunday. Smith's hit on megatron, in the end zone to dislodge the ball, are the kind of plays that lead to pro-bowler status.

Gardy isn't the reason we lost so many games. It was pitching pitching pitching. Plus very little power. Willingham and Plouffe and Domit were the only power threats. Morneau and Mauer were had very little power. Other than Willingham and Plouffe all the rest have hang up of not being able to hit home runs at Target field. Other teams have no problem. Joe no power Mauer is more worried about hitting singles to left and keeping his average up. Morneau will never be the same. Although he did hit more homers in the first half. His power was almost invisible in the 2nd half. Gardy is a good manager but the great teams have pitching and power hitters.

I'm so glad Willingham is at least signed for 2 more years. I don't know how we were able to get him, maybe KC would be stupid enough to trade Billy Butler to us for Morneau. He has more power. But in order to get a premier pitcher the Twins would have to spend mega bucks to get a no. 1 starter. The Oriels have the right type of lineup. We have to many punch and judy type of hitters. Spanny is a slap hitter, Mauer is a slap hitter. He could be a power hitter but he choses to be a slap hitter.

Having a "letdown" is what the vikings are all about, it literally defines this loser jinxed franchise from their pathetic beginnings. Us purple homers cannot forget that we are only three seasons removed from the four fumble afternoon choke performance from Peterson in the 2010 NFC Championship game in New Orleans and let's not forget about the missed Gary Anderson field goal against Atlanta or the 41 to dognut game against the Giants not to mention the 4 Super Bowl blow-outs in the 70's!!!

..4 yr extensions are now a policy?? wait til these guys turn "unrestricted" in 2 more yrs and leave. As the team sinks back to the bottom then tell us about your so called policy. There is no other team in the NBA with such a policy..It is revolving door policy. Taylor, how did u let the Khan man talk you into this??

Not saying Brunansky isn't good at his job, but everyone in baseball praises everyone else. People say good things about others because one day you might be working for that guy, or a teammate of that guy, or asking that guy for a job. It's a closed society with its own system.

the Oriels [SIC] have the right type of lineup. BALLFOUR: Funny how an organization that stunk for decades and had one good season is now someone's model.
