Rarely does any of Allens sacks have any consequence forthe opposing teams when it comes to wins or losses. Last season is a perfect example, overrated Allen got credit for 22 sacks but yet the vikings finished 3-13. A large number of these sacks were due to the opposing QB falling down on a poor snap and having Allen touch while he was already down or Allen piling on a QB while he is in the grasp of another player. Also, giving a player credit for a "half sack" is a joke to say the least and Allen has made a career out of the "half sack". Lastly, Allen has yet to record a sack in the mere three playoff games he has played in during his nine year career and that is the most telling stat that proves he is an overrated and irrelevant player outside of Minnesota.

prplstool are you serious? It's comments like yours that make me wonder if you and some others on these Trib sites are even talking about the same players and teams. Jared Allen is worth so much more to the Vikings than just his talent. His effort on the field, especially during a 3-13 season that was in no way his fault, make him at least a part of the heart and soul of this Vikes defense. He's relentless and extremely valuable to a team with so many young players where you need that player to show everyone on the team how committed you have to be. Allen doesn't know the meaning of quit and when everybody was stating their gloom and doom predictions for the Vikes at the beginning of this season he just simply stated: "Our goal is to win the Super Bowl". Frazier would only have to point to one player when he needs an example for the younger players on what you do to strive for greatness. Just point to Allen.

It's hard to argue with prplstool, it's true that Allen's inflated sack total last season had absolutely no bearing on any game last year whatsoever. Who cares about records when you end the season at 3-13 and your efforts did little to improve your team. Secondly, Allen has yet to show up, let alone record a sack, in any of the THREE playoff games he has played in over a nine year career. I remember him getting tossed around like a rag doll all day long in New Orleans during the 2010 NFC Championship game(where were the sacks during that game when we needed them) which always seams to be the case when he is up against real playoff caliber talent. It may be true that he inspires his fellow teamates but inspiring players on a 3-13 squad means little at the end of the day. One thing is for certain, outside on Minnesota very few people think or talk about Allen as a "great" player and it is no coincidence that Allen has never won a Super Bowl ring over his nine year career and he never will.

Hey, as long as he continues to do his idiotic cattle roping mime act, I'll still be laughing. Then again, their helmets do exemplify cattle or oxen, not real Viking heritage.

I know the pro bowl is a joke, but just being selected usually means you have recognition from other players / coaches / fans outside of Minnesota. Jared has been to something like 4 in his career.

This year you can see Allen is not in shape, he is on the sidelines breathing hard, he is not there in the 4th qtr, skipping all of the teams OTA's this year hurt him. I would love to see us unload him while he has value, because he is done. Did you guys see him in the Indy game? that team was missing 4 of 5 starters on the O line and Allen was a complete non factor against backups on a 2-14 team. He came in this year out of shape. bottom line.

Minor league bloggers criticizing Allen. There should be a requirement that critics share their background along with their ego inflated judgements.

Why not use Allen attacking from the right side and then move him over to the left side of the defensive line- maybe to the long side of the field. This way he would battle different blockers on different situations.
