WASHINGTON - Free birth control led to dramatically lower rates of abortions and teen births, a large study concludes. The findings were eagerly anticipated and come as a bitterly contested Obama administration policy is poised to offer similar coverage.

I wonder how they got "free" birth control? Did it fall from space?

"It's just an amazing improvement," Dr. James T. Breeden, president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said of the results. "I would think if you were against abortions, you would be 100 percent for contraception access."
You would think so, but people who oppose abortion seem to be at least as interested in controlling other people's sexuality as they are with saving fetuses.

It isn't about preventing abortion, it's about punishing women for having sex. Notice how no one has a problem with "free" Viagra, or all those Cialis commercials on teevee? Think about it.

@kleindropper: Would it be better if they had babies? How much would that cost? Whether you like it or not, free birth control can save the US taxpayers millions (billions?) of dollars.

Define "Free". Define "Responsibility". Define "Consequences".

Know what else means fewer abortions and teen births? Abstinence.

FACT: Most teenage girls and women can EASILY AFFORD the $10 a month for birth control pills. Not to mention that condoms are also very effective if used properly. What ISN'T ever discussed is that many teens and women GET PREGNANT INTENTIONALLY because they have a desire to be loved and having a baby fulfills that need, even if they are unable to take care of a child properly. How do I know? Because in High School back in the early 1990s we had some young teenage mothers in as guest speakers who told us this is why they got pregnant. NOBODY is so "poor" they cannot scrape up $10 for birth control pills. You can make that much money scavenging park trash cans for pop cans.

No government program should be labeled as "free". It should be labeled as "paid for by tax paying citizens".
