What a job Terry Ryan has ahead of himself. This is a "financial cliff" for the Twins. Another losing season and the fans will start to leave. Morneau clearly not worth $15 mil. And, only keepers on the staff are Perkins, Burton and Fien.

I would keep Perkins, Burton, Willingham, and Mauer. You could argue Diamond, but, I really don't know how he has won as many games as he has. Good luck, Mr. Ryan, getting anything of real value for any of those remaining. Other teams don't want players who shoudn't be in the majors in the first place!

I can't believe all these people complain about Joe's 23 mil. COMPLAIN ABOUT Baker, Capps, Pavano and Blackburn making 25 mil. That's robbery with no results. Atleast Joe gives you some results/when healthy.

Twins owners should look in the mirror. If their banks were doing this poorly for "rate of return" do you really think changes would not be made ? Yet out Twins ownership appears to keep "Gardy" and his "family" of coaches. Starting pitching has been a problem for years yet Billy Smith did nothing and the best Terry Ryan did last off season was "Jason Marquis". What a joke. Yes, fans will and are starting to leave the "Twins" because ownership was given a bright new stadium and all they are doing is "milking that cow". I love baseball but the product the Twins have put out is sad.

It's obvious the Pohlad boys have no clue about running a baseball team. but wingophers is right, if any of their businesses were being operated this way they would have made significant changes. Problem is, they are making a lot of money and that's all they care about. Next season, let's hope the sale of tickets drop significantly. Based on this roster projection, this team will have 90+ losses for their 3rd consecutive season.

Even when we won the central we did not go out and get a 15 mil a year pitcher. We traded for young talent and developed pitching. Once Smith took over he connected on about 10% of his trades and very little of his pitching draftees. Give Terry Ryan another year or two and the cupboard should be restocked. He drafted many nice arms this year and he will find some pitching either by trade of FA.

wingophers, Marquis isn't a joke. Not with his 4.04 ERA for the Padres.

Take of the $10mil we are overpaying Mauer and that gets us right around $66mil or just slightly ahead of where Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh will come in. Right in the mid-high 20's for payroll right where we were promised to be when they built the stadium....NOT!

Plouffe can't play any position and shouldn't be a starter. They could improve both the fielding and the pitching by trading Willingham for a pitcher.
