Bacon shortage: Aporkalypse now

Terrible reporting. The Brit's hyped a pork shortage to prop their own pork industry. The reality is that the US predicts that bacon prices might rise by 3% - 10%. Hardly a shortage. Because given the US system of cost-to-demand, there can't be a shortage. Prices can go up, but bacon can't be rationed. And really, isn't that a ridiculous concept? Common Star Tribune, we should get better reporting than this hype BS.

If you want the price of your commodity to rise, simply tell everyone there is a shortage or an impending shortage. Remember last year? the great peanut butter shortage? And yes, I fell for it, bought two jars of name brand because the generic I usually buy was sold out.

I get the skepticism, which most of us reporters wear as a badge of honor. I agree that the provenance of this report was not strong, But it turned for me on the statistic that showed how much farmers are thinning their herds. I also talked to a farmer on background who said everyone is running scared about feed prices. The supply will go down, so if demand remains the same ...
