Why do people hate so much that they want to destroy traditional marriage?

I agree with camasbud. I have heard that there has been an increase in marital problems between men and women in states where gay marriage is legal. I think it was Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck who said it, or maybe it was Puff, the Magic Dragon.

How is not banning gay marriage in the constitution a threat to "traditional" marriage?

No one "hates" so much that they are "want to destroy traditional marriage." Quite the contrary. Regardless of the outcome of the amendment vote, your marriage will still be legally recognized (assuming you are married) and mine won't. My partner and I respect our married friends, attend weddings regularly and have hosted bridal showers for our friends. We think marriage is a wonderful institution. What we are asking is not to make this amendment a part of our constitution. We'd like someday to BE married, but the amendment passing or not passing won't change that for us.

So tragic that the Catholic Church and other conservative Christian churches and the Republicans are forcing the marriage amendment on us all because they know that the balance is shifting against them with younger generations. For those who claim to care for the poor and oppressed they have forced this waste of money and oppression of families with gays and lesbians. And their reckless act will only endanger traditional marriage and drive affected families away from these churches and this political party.

What a waste of talent, time & treasure. Certainly the Archdiocese's low point.

This 'Marriage Amendment' is outside of democracy. I forget who said this but, "Democracy should be something more than two wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner". If this state Marriage Amendment passes it will be an attempt to force our gov't to endorse a specific religious doctrine. Our founding fathers were smart enough to write the Constitution to ensure the two wolves would not get to have mutten for dinner.
