Mike Coolidge was heading to work when smoke blew across the road. "I didn't even have time to think," Coolidge recalled Tuesday afternoon. "I just did it."

A real "good Samaritan" and a genuine act of raw courage. No thought - just do. I hope both are OK

..."he doesn't recommend that civilians attempt such rescues." But where there is no one there to help, not many people will stand back and watch. I dont think this man took the time to think about the calculated risks. He did a heroic thing and saved a life. I applaud him and hope they both recover well. Good job good man! He definately deserves the recognition

All in all, very courageous and also lucky that she was close to the door and visible. If you attempt a rescue like this you have a minute or less before the fumes overcome you. I'm not sure how heavy this woman was, but you won't believe how heavy a human is until you try to lift one (go ahead and try it). In this instance he was in and out in less than a minute and was able to drag her. Without these two advantages, we might have had two victims. I think that was what the firefighting professional was trying to say. That being said, bravo to Mr. Coolidge (Mr. Cool?) who did a great thing under the circumstances.
