The unit is creating turnovers and yielding fewer big plays.

I can never remember the Minnesota Gophers ever, ever having a defense. It was shredded constantly and often. Now look at this. This guy Kill really kills on defense. Hey that's cute.

This team is better at stopping a passing team rather than a running team. Our linebackers will need to play better to stop Iowa's strong running attack. I hope they play Beale more this week. He deserves to be out there and is better against the run. It will be a tough, tough game on Saturday. Stopping the Iowa running game will be the key to victory. Go Gophers!

We are not where we need to be, but we are getting closer, and we have Jerry Kill to thank. Plus it is being done the right way with athletes who are good students. Ski u mah.

If the defense continues to play well all season, that will be a very welcome break from the well and long established Gopher tradition of a defense that could stop absolutely everything except the run and the pass. I remember being out-of-town visiting relatives and turning on the game with Michigan that year and being glad to see the local lads up by 28-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. On the other hand, being well aware of the tradition with the defense, I told my host that the Gophers would lose in spite of that big lead and, of course, they did just that as was so easily predicted. Too early to get too excited about the apparent improvement in the Gopher defense given the break from a long standing tradition that improvement in that area would present but it does raise some hope that things may well be improving. Time will tell, of course.

Best Gophers defense I've seen play since David Gibbs was the defensive coordinator. Go Gophers!

The defense played fantastic. If Shortell could have been accurate on more of his passes, it would have been a blowout against Syracuse. Hope he improves his passing against Iowa this weekend.

Well, so far so good against the likes of NLV, NH, WMI and Syracuse. Now comes the proof of the pudding starting Saturday versus Iowa. Way too early to tell but if we can build on this start during our first couple B10 games (both winnable), well.... Go Gophs.

If the U puts a quality product on the field, students and fans will show up. Crazy how that works.

Born in IA, grew up in MN, and now back living in IA (don't worry, I will be back to MN soon). Anyhow, I am glad that the Gophers are winning and the defense is holding it's own. I hope that the Gophers beat IA this weekend - wouldn't that be nice.
