No architects here in Minny????
Until I see the actually design, not much to get excited about. And, NO, for the millionth time, no Minnesota firms put in a bid. It is a hghly specialized project and nobody in MN does this type of work.
Re MN firms, Ellerbee Beckett has done big sports facilities. I'll also withhold critique untill the design gets presented. At least with Ellerbee Beckett out of the picture, we have hope for something less bland and ugly.
Yeah, my tax dollars going to pay for an over priced archie. Wonderful news!
The old Elerbe Becket is now AECOM! There are over 300 employees here in Minneapolis and a good piece of the work would be done by local employees. It's nice how the local media can't even report that there is in fact a local architect who could get this project!
I can't wait to see the design, although I still would have much preferred to see an outdoor venue that would restore the tradition of Viking football played in the natural elements.......:(...
I just hope the design has a wow factor. I think both TCF and Target are top shelf as far as form and function. Personally, I enjoy the NFL stadiums that have a personality all their own. Although Texas Stadium is huge, I like how the seats come down extremely close to the field as it creates an intimate setting.
Yes, an outdoor stadium would have been the way to go, like Lambeau or the Rose Bowl, or Notre Dame stadium. Whatever this one looks like, it'll be soul-less and life-less.
I always wondered that if they designed a standard outdoor stadium if there would have been a substantial cost savings over the fixed-roof design of the new facility? If so, couldn't the amount saved simply have been inserted into the stadium plan as a seperate fund established to maintain and support the current Metrodome after the Vikings were no longer a tenant? This would have allowed for the best of both worlds -- the existing Dome to be used for it's current activities outside of football, and the outdoor stadium to be used for Viking games and outdoor-friendly events, all for the same final cost!
Wait a minute. Are we still going to pay for this thing? We're giving them almost half a billion dollars and they can't settle with the referees over a paltry 3 million? I say put everything on hold until the owners decide to settle and we can actually have a real game of football. Right now, they're not giving us anything that I'd want to pay for.
