Such hypocrisy that City Pages, which leans way left in it's philosophy and biased coverage supports it's self with sex trafficking money. They preach, lecture, and pontify over social justice and anything else they cover, yet they're paid with the money of pimps who are victimizing and trafficking young girls. I hope the new owners stop taking money from pimps.

It's a miniscule percentage of the Backpage ads that involve sex trafficking. Most are women in business for themselves. Also, it's interesting that the Strib has a feature writer covering this story. It's almost as though they view City Pages as competition in that arena or something.

Frankly, the ads in their adult section are just as bad as the Backpage.com ads, and yet, the new ownership said they will continue to take those ads. Then again, if you took their sex ads and bar ads out, you'd be left without much else.

Who cares. Is there anything in the local media more irrelevant than the City Pages?

Even if you don't like City Pages it is still one of the best coasters to set your beer mug on while you wint for your other friends to arrive at the bar.

City Pages acts like the only people who get bullied are the GLBT community. How about the kids who are short, too tall, overweight, have acne all over their face, have a cleft palate, have big ears, can't afford new clothes, etc. Bullying is not just a GLBT issue, and not just GLBT kids have considered suicide because of bullying. I know this first hand, unfortunately.

City Pages was sold because it was the low-profit part of the business?

Actually, City Pages does put out some pretty informative articles... if you bothered to open to the beginning of the mag instead of the back.

As Alanp says, it is hypocritical of City Pages to otherwise lean oh-so-very "progressive," yet cave-in to unsubstantiated hype and conservative prudery. As Anewman states, Women being trafficked, especially underage ones, make up a very small percentage. The vast majority of the sex-related Backpage ads are posted by the very types of 'strong independent businesswomen' City Pages editorials and features otherwise laud.
