Miller: Kill is all smiles about winning

  • Article by: PHIL MILLER , Star Tribune

A victory with a tall Kansan at the helm, and a Jayhawks loss to Jerry Kill's former team, left the U coach giddy.

Jerry Kill is a good man. I hope the U acts now to keep him here long enough to build and sustain a program. He'll be snatched away this season if they don't act now.

Thanks Coach and staff for turning this program around. When you say the team needs to execute better at critical times, this would be happening if Shortell had started and gained experience last year. As Miller stated find a place for Gray to be in the game at the same time, but the Gophers need a passing QB.

Here's hoping the Gophers don't pull a Mason and lose to a terrible Iowa team on Saturday. Mason's teams had a habit of getting a nice win and failing to follow up the next week by beating an inferior program.

Nice job by Kill and staff and a team effort by teh Gophs. Wasn't totally sold on Kill when he first came in but he has so far made a beleive rout of a lot of people including me. Gophers need to stay agressive at the end and stay out of the prevent. When they pressured Syracuse they were successful. The punting game or lack there of almost cost them the game as they continually gave the Orange great feild position with poor punts.

@roymercer - Kill has a 7 year contract....he isn't going anywhere...at least for a few more years.

Even a blind man can see that this team is vastly improved since the Brewster debacle.

They're paying the man peanuts. It would be nothing for him to walk away from this contract to a big time program. Kill has auditioned and passed the test. Now we need to be proactive and get in front of the issue instead of reacting to it.

Kill needs to win some (at least three) B10 games before I'll consider the season a success. Winning these four non-conference games is what was expected. Now is when the competition and the execution and the coaching gets serious. I like what I see so far, but it's way too early to grade the season. They have a legitimate chance to win their first two conference games and a good change at Illinois. Win at least two of these and spring an upset versus Wisconsin or Purdue or Nebraska and he'll be on his way. Win only two conference games and he'll be just like last year or what the interim coach accomplished with these same Brewster recruits. NOW is when it gets serious. Let's hope we've got the right guy at the helm (both at QB and on the sideline). We'll know in 9 weeks. Go Gophs.

I can't wait to see how this team fares against legitmate Division I football teams. It's nice to beat D-II and the 105th ranked D-I teams, but let's see them beat a decent team. Then we've got something!
