Let's hope when Gray comes back Coach Kill pays him at end or in the backfield with Shortell. Gray has a chance to play end in the pros and could be one of the best in college. Shortell would be doing even better had he been the starter last year, as all the players learned Kills systems.

Suddenly, I don't miss Gray at quarterback.

Shortell has a long way to go yet. His passing accuracy deserted him in the second half when he missed wide open receivers all over the field. He still throws far better than Gray who should be converted to a tight end.

For the last two years, Shortell is the best QB and Gray is the best receiver and running back. Why does this area have so many coaches who do not know who to play, where. Is it something in the water? The cold temperatures? or revenge of the mosquitos.

"Shortell has a long way to go yet. His passing accuracy deserted him in the second half when he missed wide open receivers all over the field" Other than Gray, this team has no pro skilled or sized receivers. Shortell threw numerous passes that were not caught despite the receivers touching the ball. Warmath said that when you pass three things can happen and two are bad. I don't agree. Shortell has an important ablility, he passes the ball so either his guy catches it or no one catches it. This makes him the best QB in Minnesota, college or pro.

Shortell did a good job, but his passing skills were no more than average, which won't lock up the starting role. He completed about half his passes and he throws a deep ball a bit better than Gray. We all know that Gray can complete about half his passes, but the pro-level running skills he brings should not be overlooked.

While I personally think Shortell has more upside at QB, I find it very hard to root against Gray. He's been a class act ever since he's come here---always with a smile on his face and willing to do/play wherever the coaches want without complaining or worrying about how it might hurt any NFL chances. He was a top recruit who came here when better teams offered, and didn't leave when forced to sit out his first year. If he does struggle at QB when he comes back, I hope the Goph fans will keep this in mind.

Nice job by Shortell at QB. He showed lots of poise under pressure. Hopefully Gray can come back as a tail back/ receiver so they both can come out of the backfield. What a tandem that would be. Only problem would be the backup QB.
