Vote No after asking yourself two questions? Does the Marriage Issue belong in the Minnesota State Constitution? Should same sex couples be denied the legal status of Marriage? This isn't just about whether or not you support gay marriage, it's about the integrity of our constitution.

This amendment is anti democratic (small d). Gay marriage is already against the law. The amendment is an attempt to embed the ban in the constitution so that future generations will have a much harder time changing it. Amendment supporters know that younger people are more likely to support gay marriage and are trying to hold off the inevitable change as long as possible after the older homophobes are gone.

I am very conservative and allowing gays to marry is totally consistent with my belief in limited government.

Marriage is sacred, it should be reinforced, not redefined.

Fine, let the churches own marriage. Just strip away any legal rights from the term. Nobody gets any civil benefits by getting "married". If you want those, you get yourself a "civil union license." And make those available to same and opposite sex couples.

If you support civil unions, I see no reason to vote yes for this amendment. If you are ok with gays and lesbians having equal legal protections for their unions, then they must be allowed to have a marriage in the eyes of the law...because that's how are laws are written. If you oppose them being married in a religious sense only, then it's entirely up to your church and religion to not perform that religious ceremony. Personally, I wouldn't find that fair and would find a different church, but that's what freedom of religion is...so if a church or religion opposes it for that church or religion, it's none of my business to care. But to allow people of the same gender to marry under the eyes of the law is simply allowing them same status from a legal perspective. And it makes no sense to me that people should be allowed to use their religion to ban other people from holding legal rights that the rest of use enjoy. To say otherwise is to subject me to abiding by your religious beliefs, and I would not hold you to mine. So to vote yes to the amendment is not just denying a legal right to gays and lesbians, but infringing upon other people's right to their own religion. Tread lightly on that, if you wish for your own religion to be respected.

Why do they call themselves "Minnesotans for Marriage" when they want to ban it?

A sharp divide between those focused on controlling other people's lives and those of us who mind our own business.

"If you are ok with gays and lesbians having equal legal protections for their unions, then they must be allowed to have a marriage in the eyes of the law..." No, they can have all the same legal rights without calling it marriage. The wording is what people are concerned with.

"Vote No after asking yourself two questions? Does the Marriage Issue belong in the Minnesota State Constitution? Should same sex couples be denied the legal status of Marriage?"__________ Vote YES for two reasons. This will prevent activist judges from legislating from the bench, and gays can have all the legal rights they want without calling it marriage. I think the pressure groups are more concerned with stealing the label than any rights.
