Time is now for these young guys too!! We spent two first round picks on our secondary in recent years and its still the worst in the NFL. With Cook and Harrison. Yes Cook was basically our first round.

good column. It is time for the Vets to step up. This is a rebuilding team. Some of these vets are here to help the young guys become better players, and better there understanding of pro ball, and to show them what it takes to be successful in this league. There has been alot of Randy Moss talk this week. I can remember his rookie season, like it was yesterday. I also remember Cris Carter schooling him, and sometimes yelling at him on the sidelines. I thought it was strange that Moss had caught 8 passes for 180yds and 2 tds, but was being yelled at by Carter for missing a block, or not comming back toward the QB, when the QB was being chased out of the pocket. It seemed dumb, to me , at the time, but would Moss have reached his full potential, if it wasn't for Carter? Winfield is in a similar situation. The problem is, he has 3 or 4 players to help. Every young player, that becomes a star in this league, always credits 1 or 2 Veterans with helping him become better. Greenway, Allen, Williams, Sullivan, Jenkins, Harvin, need to step up, and show either by example, or by a good reeming, what is expected of other players. There are going to be missed blocking assignments, blown coverages, wrong pass routes, missed gap assignments, etc... The need is to have these vets correct the youngsters mistakes, so the same problems don't happen over and over again. Coaches need to coach, install discipline, pound into these young guys heads where they are supposed to be, what they are supposed to be doing. I think it starts with the players that have experience. I am not expecting the Vikes to be a 10-6 team this season, and don't want them to be a 3-13 team either. If they do what they are supposed to be doing, playing as hard as they can, and are not beating themselves with a bunch of penalties, and turnovers, and get beaten by a better team, I can live with that, as a fan. Seeing them do the same mistakes over and over again, is something that is hard to swallow. Young guys need to have coaches, coach them, not cottle them. They need team mates to show them the right way to do things, not a pat on the back, and a "Get em next time tiger". This is the NFL, not college, or High school. GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
