Gardening is absolutely good for the soul. I started a veggie garden two years ago, and I doubled the size of my plot this year. It's a ton of work, but so satisfying. Nothing tastes better than food you produced yourself! Very glad to see these programs popping up at correctional facilities. Folks who are willing to do the work to change deserve this kind of support...and a tangible way to see the benefits of their own efforts to create something positive. Every human being needs that in life, whether it's through gardening or some other activity. Without finding a way to participate in and contribute to something bigger than yourself, you can get pretty lost. I think everyone experiences that in life. Kudos to the folks who are supporting the program, and to those participating in it!

I believe someone told me that once Stillwater Prison was self supporting. Gardens, farms, cattle, chickens and etc. besides manufacturing. Then the Unions said NO, they are taking our jobs. Now taxpayers have to support the inmates. Bummer. I think if they don't work they don't eat. Self support all prisons.

This story made me so happy. What an amazing way to reform peoe, help them see productivity in action and be positive. I am a huge gardner-this just brought joy to me to hear of these prisoners doing this.
