Vikings' passing game is one of few risks, rewards

Christian Ponder's completion rate leads the NFL, but throwing only short, safe passes without mixing in many deep balls hasn't stretched the field.

It's time to quit babying Ponder and let him run an NFL offense. If you have 3 Percy's its all right to throw short and run after the catch but when you don't you have to throw deep. Not having Simpson is no excuse because the Vikes knew last year that they had no legitamate deep threat. Either the staff doesn't trust Ponder or the O line or the deep threats on this team. These were all issues last year also and were supposed to be resolved so what happened. The Viking hierachy is really starting to confuse me. I would like to see Ponder call his own plays for a couple of series and see what happens.

I'm definitely encouraged by Ponder. Not throwing to the other team will pay off if the defense can make some plays. I was a bit concerned how he couldn't seem to find anybody when he rolled out and extended plays. Maybe nobody really was open. Hopefully that improves. Getting Simpson next week can only help.

When do we stop making excuses why Ponder can't throw beyond 5 yards, or to someone completely WIDE OPEN? Oh yeah, everyone was covered. We don't have any deep threat WR. Etc, Etc. Will things change when Simpson is active? Will Simpson even record 100 yards rec. in one game? Nope. Ponder isn't an idiot, he won't turn the ball over often-but let's face it. He isn't anything above average, for NFL QB's. Luck and RGIII have both thrown passes, Ponder hasn't even attempted yet.

Finally, someone not drinking purple koolaid. So many uneducated fans think Ponder is doing great. He is NOT productive and only throws balls to WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS. He eats the ball more often than not. He struggles to throw the ball downfield. At this rate, his name is going to become Christian Dinkledunk.

Game plan this week better involve getting Ponder out of the pocket on roll outs or he's a dead duck. He throws better on the run anyway. Vikes lose 31 to 3 but's it will be over by halftime. Look for the boo-birds to come out. I may be wrong but if anyone can provide any reason this won't be a blow out - I'm all ears. There's just not one thing to lead me to believe otherwise.

The Vikings always do about the opposite of what they should. I feel like rather than just lose this week, they will make a heck of a close game of it. Probably down to the wire, then lose it. The Vikes rarely get blown out (except in the playoffs) and they have no business competing in this one..so they will, just to be frustrating. Also, it seems so 'obvious' to all of the experts that the 49ers will shut down Peterson, that i half expect him to bust a few long ones. whatever may be the case, SKOL VIKINGS!

Is anyone going to start questioning Musgrave; he should take responsibility for the unimaginative offense. Show us his success ? and background history of calling plays with other teams. What in the world happened to the front office getting competent receivers this season, you need more than Harvin and Simpson.

The NFL is a passing league...the Vikings can't complete the deep ball and can't defend the pass. They might beet the Titans, but if not, get ready for 1-15

You play to your strengths and in the Vikings case that's Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson and Kyle Rudolph. Maybe when Jerome Simpson comes back he will be added to that list but until then they don't have a deep threat.

Maybe you'd rather he take more risks like last year. But then you'd complain about him not taking care of the football.
