Another example of our government at work. It is actions like this that tell us why we all should be paying higher taxes.

For YEARS MNDot has been wasting taxpayer money. I can't recall how many times they redid Hwy 169 around Eden Prairie. The stop lights at so many intersections appear to be programmed by blind monkeys. Now sure who heads this department, but they have cost the taxpayers a ton of money.

Mistakes like this are not because we're throwing too much tax money at road construction, but because we are not paying ENOUGH! Most mistakes like this are caused by budget constraints doing things on the cheap instead of right the first time.

Dflpartypartyparty: How would paying more in taxes prevent another bone-headed over-sight? Mistakes happen, so does incompetence. We don't get what we pay for NOW, so paying more in taxes only feeds the entrenchment that is killing this country. Obama's failed first term is a better example of our government at work -- why would anyone wish to give him 4 more years to play more golf?

Evidently, the MNDOT engineers weren't looking at the paving when this was done. How else do you miss a gap that big between the road and the shoulder? But by all means, let's continue to deny that state employees are the best in the business.

While I'm at it: Several years ago MNDOT built a bridge over Hwy 10 on northbound 610 which lead to a cloverleaf-type loop ramp onto westbound 10. Then a few years later, they extended 610 to 35W but felt the exit ramp to Hwy 10 needed to start slightly sooner to make a safer transition/exit. Solution? They completely demolished the just-built bridge overpass, then rebuilt it in the same exact spot but added another lane which allowed for the exit ramp to start ON the overpass, instead of AFTER it. What genius thought of that, instead of building it into the original structure? Aren't these things built on paper 20 years in advance? I wonder what that little oversight cost? Who is accountable? That's right, no one.

We're just going to pay for it once, not twice....We didn't pay for it the first time around, hence it wasn't dopne. But I'm sure it will be at a higher rate the second time around because they have to get all their stuff back out there......pavers, rent the orange cones and barrels again....

MNDOT is completely incompetent. Look at their $700,000,000 bridge project over the St Croix that we just HAD to have. Now, in the words of a MNDOT spokesman: "The closure of the Stillwater Lift Bridge early Monday, Sept. 10, resulted in "zero issues," according to Mary McFarland, spokeswoman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation." In other words, THE NEW "BRIDGE TO NOWHERE" IS A COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY WAIST OF $700 MILLION TAXPAYER DOLLARS. Ooooops. Thanks MNDOT. Thanks Amy Klobuchar. Thanks Michelle Bachmann. And guess what, we have to continue pumping MILLIONS into the lift bridge too, including operation the old lift, so it can be a bike trail. Isn't that special.

So really the article title is incorrect. They aren't 'redoing' anything. They are doing the shoulders for the first time. Mistakes happen. Overall MnDOT does a very good job on our roads.
