Would somebody please explain to me what "the perils of same-sex relationships and marriage" are?

There are plenty of older people on board with gay marriage. None of them are republicans. Republicans say they want small government but the truth is they want to control what goes on in your bedroom.

As a demographic category (not talking about individuals here), old people also opposed the civil rights movement and supported crooks like Richard Nixon for way too long. With age often comes a misplaced desire for stability that undercuts progress and decency. This is why we need young people to balance us out. There is NOTHING about same-sex marriage that undercuts traditional marriage. It is about treating our neighbors, friends and coworkers with basic fairness and respect. If us old timers can't manage this, then the world would be better off without us.

My 91-year-old Christian, conservative, Republican grandmother now supports gay marriage. Why? Because she has seen my partner and I in a loving, committed relationship for the past 12 years and has spent time with our two adorable kids. She wishes we could be legally married so that we and our kids would have greater legal protections.

All this money being spent to put hate and discrimination in the State's constitution. How sad. Seems like it could be put to better use.

I wonder how many people that opposed inter-racial marriages in the past are remembered fondly today. The GOP/TP legislators and their supporters will be remembered the same way in the very near future. I wouldn't want to have to justify suppressing basic rights and bigotry to my children and grandchildren.

I am in my mid 40's and very conservative when it comes to money and most social issues but gay marriage harms no one. This is crazy that people need to get involved and if doesn't even effect them. If it offends you look the other way. Live and let live and move on.

As a family with a beloved gay son, we give thanks to everyone who is working to defeat this mean spirited amendment that will forever ban marriage for him. It not only affects his life, for we all feel his pain. We all want for him what has been precious to us. I can not understand how any person would deny another what they hold dear themselves. Selfish and cruel.

Me: 57 years old, straight, married, voting NO on the "marriage amendment" and voting NO on voter suppression, and looking forward to a day when everyone enjoys equal rights and opportunities.

From the article: Schubert and other marriage amendment supporters say there is no proof that younger people will hold these views as they get older. As young people age, marry and have families of their own, they begin to see marriage as a complex relationship, "not just a bumper sticker slogan," he said ... Basic ideas of fairness with regard to civil rights aren't merely some dumb fad. Darn right it's complex. It surprises me that members of older generations don't "get it" given the particularly volatile US civil rights history they themselves have lived through while coming of age in the post war years of the 20th century and their knee jerk willingness to discount their own history. And I say that to the black community as well. Simply, you vote for this amendment, you leave nothing but a legacy of failure, cheating your own generation as well as future generations.
