This move shouldn't surprise anyone -- the Maplewood city government has done a lot of things over the past decade or so that call into question their motivation for even serving in city government, much less listening to the will of the people.

This is what you get, people, when you elect a contractor as mayor and a real estate salesguy to the city council (who, incidentally, was a former mayor of Maplewood). Real estate and construction are their personal livelihood. These were the guys behind the proposed massive redevelopment of the Gladstone area. They planned on selling some of the parkland and open space in the vicinity of Frost/English to developers to make that project happen. It's why the real estate guy lost his re-election bid for the office of mayor. Now, just a few short years later, people with no memory elected him to city council where he continues to promote an agenda that aligns with his business interests. Smart move, citizens!
