The lack of competition in the label market. 3M was following the classic method of driving out competition. Enter the market with a low price and drive the competition's prices down to the break even point then offering to buy out the competition. When #1 buys out #2 and there are no 3 or 4 you have a monopoly and the sky's the limit.
