This will be a great addition to the zoo that as a member I am looking forward to seeing this weekend, but when is the zoo going to get some whitetailed deer as part of the Minnesota loop. Eagles, bear, moose, wolves, porcupine, turtles, fish, etc.; but not deer???

Please don't portray black bears as harmless. Black Bears are big fearsome animals that big strong hunters can take pride in killing. They are not oversized racoons who are only interested in pawing through your garbage.

I'd like to thank the state of MN for supporting this exhibit. The black bear is a Minnesota icon and this is going to make the MN ZOO even better than it already is. Henry

To: @detached. The Black Bear ( Ursus americanus)has a different nature than the Brown Bear of which the Grizzle Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) is a subspecies. The MN Black bear is genetically linked to the Jewel Bear of Japan - also a timid and shy bear. Granted, if trapped or cornered nearly every wild animal may show aggression, but the Black Bear's nature is to run away or up a tree. To educate yourselves more on the nature of Black Bears, go to the North American Bear Center website: nabc.org There is a wealth of scientific fact based on 40 years of Black Bear study and observation in their native habitat.
