Deformed frogs still a mystery

Students discovered deformed frogs in 1995. Now, the biologist who took up the cause has written about the battle for answers.

I thought the main culprit was trematodes (parasites) causing trouble during embryonic development. More specifically Ribeiroia

The story confused me. How many deformed frogs did they find this year, one, or was it two? Given the number of frogs born, the percentage is mighty low. Even the number in 1995 is pretty low. Perhaps the real facts are the kids are pretty good at catching the frogs with the bad wheels, but not so good catching the healthy ones. Oh, well, at least somebody got 700K to do an in depth study. I got some funny looking squirrels in my yard I'd be willing to keep an eye on for a while if somebody will pony up the dough to do it...
