Souhan: If Adrian Peterson says it, believe it

The Vikings' star back kept telling everyone he'd be healthy by the season opener. His two TDs and 84 yards were convincing evidence.

I thought Adrian looked a little gimpy and the Jags targeted his knee on a few plays, once a real cheap shot out of bounds. I was surprised he was used so much, but evidently beating Jacksonville was crucial, which was probably true.

As I watched AP come in and take handoff after handoff--after all he's been through between this and last season--I think of guys who were bigger than the game; Brown, Payton, and yes, Emmitt Smith. There are some interesting similarities;-hard driving, determination, the will to succeed. Sure, he was stopped at times during the game, but he responded with a quick step, and a big run when needed late. All in all I'd say for not playing a single down in preseason Adrian Peterson acclimated really well, and is the premier runningback of the league. And yes, he'll get better and stronger as he goes...and goes...and goes.

AP is a freak of nature. Super happy for him knowing the work he put in to get back on the field. I always laugh when fans or so called "experts" talk about trading him cause he has nothing left. Well to those know-it-alls, AP just showed he's way to special to trade & he has plenty of gas left in the tank.

When Adrian Peterson is done playing in the NFL, nobody will ever say he dogged it, or took a single play off. He's all man and we're all glad he's wearing a Vikings jersey.

Adrian Peterson is a throwback, He reminds me of Bill Brown, or maybe Stu Voight. Admittedly a lot flashier than both but with same dogged grittiness and spit-in-your-eye toughness that made Brown and Voigt Vikings mainstays. He's certainly not one of the strutting prima donnas that seem to be overabundant in the NFL these days.

Most impressive to me was that Peterson was the first one off the sideline to congratulate Walsh after he made the tying kick. He obviously understands his role as the leader of this football team.

Several articles indicate that the typical recovery time for his injury is 6-9 months, and he had surgery more than 8 months ago, so it's not all that remarkable for him to be on the field. However, for him to have played as WELL as he did is a bit of a surprise.

Stu Voight? that's the guy you pick for comparing -- what, are you saying Adrian has bank fraud in his future?

If we all took our jobs and responsibilities as seriously as AD does, this world would be a much better place. I'm just sayin'...

As a person who went through the same surgery and rehabilitation, I can attest to the mental and physical strength needed to get through that injury that and to compete at the highest level again. Congratulations Adrian, a job well done!
