"leading edge, not bleeding edge." Hennepin is hardly leading edge, replacing PC's every four years. They are still running XP and just installed Office 2010 this year. Basically technology is upgraded when the manufacturers no longer support the equipment.

Maybe the government units should look at the pay they give to IT staff. I think that the days of premium pay to computer support staff have passed now.

Gee, you mean technology costs money? Maybe schools do need more money. When was the last time the cost of updated technology, gas/diesel, food, electricity, etc. went down? The cost of everything continues to rise while you want schools to get by on less.

It just occurred to me that Office 2013 will not run on XP and 2010 is going away. That must be why Hennepin switched now. I wonder how much extended business support can be left on XP? There must not be much for updates anymore. They are running pretty razor wire thin on the updates. It's to bad, because over time it can't be much cheaper than moving up the cycle a bit, they are just temporarily putting off costs.

Perhaps the government should save money by going back to typewriters and steno pads. Think of the efficiency!
