Smith: Changes brewing in woods won't help grouse

A reduction in logging means fewer new aspen trees and older forests, which doesn't bode well for the populations of grouse or deer.

What about the numerous endangered species that depend on old growth? You would think there is some kind of emergency because hunters can't blast more grouse and deer. Not one word about the quality of forests for recreational use and the incredible beauty of old growth. Just this constant campaign for more clear cuts for a few weeks of grouse and deer hunting. There is more to life then hunting on these prolific and hideous clear cut forest lands.

A properly matured and evolved forest is problem? Weird. Go to the corn belt if you want a million more deer than were historically found in MN.

Even "A properly matured and evolved forest" had openings and young aspen growth.
