Here is the difference. Obama and Biden tweaked the truth in certain cases and presented the economic numbers that presented their record in the most favorable light. That is to be expected, I'm afraid. All politicians do it. On the other hand, almost EVERYTHING Romney and Ryan said at their convention was either partly or completley untrue. This is a new level of dishonesty we haven't really seen in our politics before. I wish the media would avoid this sort of false equivalence--as if both sides are equally bad when it comes to distorting the truth. This is wrong. The VAST majority of the distortions are coming from Republicans.

Clinton's speech at the DNC had a couple FACT CHECK articles written as well. Those articles threw Clinton under the bus for his half truths, which are the same as lies, for Clinton who actually knew the facts but chose to skew the facts towards a Democrat advantage. Who thought Clinton would ever do that?

Hey endotherm: I began reading your post thinking you have something to say that was new. False representations of the truth from both sides to further their cause. If a company advertised the way the two candidates do, executives would be sued & thrown in jail for false advertising. You said, All politicians do it." And I thought, ya, someone else sees how both sides are truly scum. But then you showed us your stripes. So Romney/Ryan do more? I was hoping the point of your post was going to be civil. But, you then pull an Obama & despite your conciliatory remark you manage to slam Romney & Ryan for lying. You are part of the problem. Vast majority of lies are from the Obama/Axelrod/Jarrett/Biden team. They lie because they have no record to defend .Good luck in November. Beginning to look like a landslide from my humble perch.

@mylittleid: here is one from the Strib. You can find it in the site index.

FACT CHECK: Obama the compromiser? Clinton mischaracterizes intransigence of both parties Article by: MATT APUZZO and TOM RAUM , Associated Press Updated: September 6, 2012 - 2:09 AM

The others were from The Washington Post, Yahoo, and (I believe) Rueters

johndont - I read your Star Tribune article by Matt Apuzzo and Tom Raum. I also found numerous articles pointing out the faults in their fact checking. Google "Matt Apuzzo fact check". A good example of the logic in the article is the first point they make: "Right from the beginning Obama brought in as his first chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, a man known for his getting his way, not for getting along." That's it. No mention of what exactly Raum Emanuel did to cause a problem. It's supposed to show the Obama administration's unwillingness to compromise, but they present no evidence whatsoever. I guess just the presence of Emanuel is all the proof these two need. They go on to talk about the budget agreement between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner in 2011. And then they confirm exactly what Clinton said: "Boehner couldn't sell the plan to tea party factions in the House or to other conservative activists". So they confirmed that what Clinton said was actually a fact.

mylittleid- In your posting about the Obama/Boehner budget agreement- you convientently forgot to mention the part where Boehner had agreed to a significant tax increase to come to an agreement only to have Obama ask for another $400 billion in tax revenue. (for sources- google Bob Woodward's new book). It just gets so old that it is portrayed that Obama compromises and GOP don't. Aside from Obama's speeches- show me real examples of compromises on issues like immigration, Tort reform, taxation, CAFE standards, budget spending, etc

sylvanlake, "Vast majority of lies are from the Obama/Axelrod/Jarrett/Biden team. They lie because they have no record to defend.Good luck in November." You are right, they do not need to defend their record, now the republicans, that a record to defend. And as far as needing luck this November, we all need it, and that luck being that people come around and remember who got us into this whole mess, yes the Republicans. Lets get our heads on straight in this country for a change, and the change we need is for people to think! Think! Think!

If that is all they were able to come up with it shows the speeches were quite accurate. Leaving off the time horizon on the first one, anyone with a brain could have figured it out. This article just shows the fact checkers were struggling to come up with anything....while during the RNC they probably had a list of similar size with statements that actually were true. They still continue to repeat the Janesville plant closing is Obama's fault even though it happened before he took office.

ronniereagan "only to have Obama ask for another $400 billion in tax revenue." So what; what's your point? The Republicans still were unwilling to act at a time it was needed. It was their mess to help clean up and all they did was obstruct. NOT THE LEADERSHIP WE NEEDED NOR NEED GOING FORWARD.
