Here comes an increase in the cost of daycare. Just what is needed...more training. Those that ignore the obvious will still ignore the obvious.

was this "panel"made up of SEIU union organizers who sit in the "governor's" mansion telling Dayton what to do every day?

Also, the fact that MN has the highest cost of daycare in the nation. No wonder why people do this without a license. 200+ per child what a gold mine...

OK, higher rate of death in home care...how many more children are cared for in home care vs at centers? How many of those kids actually died specifically because of the position they were in and how many of them were sleeping in that position in their own homes and might just have easily have died with their own parents caring for them? The reporting on this whole series has seemed to focus on proving in home care (the more affordable option) is worse than centers and pushing centers only...I'm sorry, but if I had a kid, I would prefer them in a home with less kids than a big center where people are under paid and working for someone else. And awesome too, the taxpayers will get to pay even more toward child care.

"The delicate balance with increased licensing requirements is that they could become so cumbersome that some providers quit the business." Or they just skip the licensing process entirely and avoid the cumbersome requirements while allowing their businesses to continue without any oversight.

What sanctions and punishments will be given to the parents of the 343 children who died in the parent's own home--especially if the child were found asleep on their stomach, or with a soft blanket, or stuffed toy?

Some of these comments are absurd...being critical of more training for the people responsible for your children? I'm a firm believer in child care centers (properly run). I'd pay more in a heartbeat to have the proper checks and balances in place that wouldn't always be there in some homes. I don't have an over-abundance of money either - I go without other things to make sure my kids are safe.

These people will never stop. It is progressive Incrementalism and it will only end when every aspect of our lives are dictated to us by the elite. Good luck.

fdrebin -- agreed. Sure smells like retaliation for the gov's failed unionization of home day care providers. I'm sick of seeing these articles crucifying in home day care providers. My two kids flourished in the home day care they were in when they were little. I NEVER would have stuck them in a center.

To those who think this panel was union people, look at the report- didn't find one SEIU or AFSCME person. Lots of Dept. of Human Services personnel who deal with children, county medical examiners, public safety officers, nurses from hospitals... trying to stop the tide of rising infant deaths is not a bad thing. AND, recommendations are just that- these aren't laws, but some common sense potential solutions.
