Scoggins: Sherels sticks with Vikings despite size, odds

A month ago, the former U cornerback seemed unlikely to make the roster. But he's still here, appreciated for his multipurpose value.

As a fellow Rochester John Marshall alum, I couldn't be more proud of Marcus' achievements, both with the Gophs and Vikes. Keep it up, we're with you all the way!

Do you really believe all the guys we kept on our roster are all better than all the players that were released by the rest of the league at final cut day. That is what is wrong with Spielman he thinks all of his picks are good. The Vikings had the 3rd worst record and thus have the 3rd chance at picking up waiver players. Players that were on the bubble or players that couldn't quite make the playoff teams rosters because their teams didn't have the room to add them due to their rosters are good. Speilman needs to find the John Randalls in the rough , and quit thinking his picks are great. I look at our final roster and some of the players on it make me laugh.

Agreed. Marcus deserves a roster spot and has proven this. C. Cook on the other hand is a disaster waiting to happen. He'll be burned more than a kid playing with matches or get hurt in the first game. He is not the player that he was supposed to be as picked #1 in RD 2 a few years ago. He is not durable and cannot cover very well.

I'm happy for the kid. Stay healthy kid and kick some butt out there.

The Vikes ranked 16th in punt return in 2010 with Camarillo and ranked 23rd last year with Sherels. Neither of them gave you the feeling that they were close to breaking one for a TD. I'm happy for Marcus but it would be nice if the expectations from our PR position was more than "he can catch the ball".

Local kid, worked hard, made the cut, it's a nice story BUT he was a big reason the Vikings had a historically bad secondary last year. He simply is not an NFL CB. As to his punt return skills, he seems sure handed but he is hardly electrifying. I was was really hoping Wright would win the punt return job, or one of the veteran CB would beat him out. Really, he does nothing for me as a punt returner and as a CB is a liability, but hey good for him, nice story.
