Like several Gophers freshmen and sophomores, the cornerback-turned-safety delivered a sudden impact.

This team is SOOOOO bad! Wait until Saturday when they struggle with New Hamshire. They won't win a Big Ten game

Yes, nice to see a Gopher all over the field making plays on the defensive side of the ball. But remember -- these young players stood out against UNLV, one of the worst teams in the country. Let's wait until we see how they do against conference teams. Too early to anoint anyone during this very weak non-conference schedule. Big improvement needs to be shown in each of the next three games or this will be just another lost year for Gopher football. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but this first game was ugly. Go Gophs.

No doubt, as Coach Kill says, they have added quite a bit of talent to the team...whether this will translate into more wins is questionable. I just recall watching Alabama-Michigan on Saturday night. Man, I tried to envision the Gophers playing 'bama! Sorry, but right now that would be a massacre of the worst magnitude! I mean they dominated Michigan - and the Wolverines are supposed to be the favorite to win the Big10! No question as to who the superior football conference is. Gophs have a long, long way to go!

There's maybe 2 teams that can play Alabama right now. is that really your litmus test? I feel bad for you coworkers or kids trying to live up to those standards. High expectations are is must. But don't be ridiculous.

Bama, has arguably the greatest college football coach, and motivator in the history of the game. Saban is a shoe-in for the College Football Hall of Fame as it stands right now in my opinion. I really do not think many teams will stand a chance against any Saban coached teams. Let alone a team with 5 years of his imprint on the program. Michigan might have been picked to win the Big 10, but let's not forget that Urban Meyer is a HC in our division at this time. For what I can remember his Florida teams always gave Bama a run for their money. True, Saban might not have quite made the strides with the Crimson Tide at that point, as he has at this point. But I still believe that Meyer is a great coach. Just bad luck that he chose Ohio St.

rdilley- Funny you mention MN and Alabama. Might want to look up who the last B1G team to be Alabama. I save to the google, yup the Gophers. Trying learning a little history of college football, but I do agree Bama would crush us this year. Now of course you see the difference in what an AD, and administration and hiring a good coach can do for a football program. Maturi is gone, jury is out on Kill(Maturi guy) and the new president Kahler seems to get it by hiring Teague that sports buys the school a lot of things on the academic end. Just the licensing fees alone sky rocket when athletic teams do well. That goes to a general fund at a University, not to athletics.

peezy1: Urban's renewal is happening in the Leader's Division. You know...that one with Indiana, Illinois, PSU, Purdue THE Ohio State and wisky. So, he's ceretainly not a Legend yet. And...Nick didn't quite get the job done at MSU...he was off to LSU before the Spartans got to the top...He's made his mark at LSU and Alabama though... ; 0 )

Our goal this season is to win six or more games while becoming a better football program than we were last year. The rest is just big talk. We are not playing for a national title and will not be legally recruiting the elite players in the deep south too much this year. Whether we are ever again able to recruit those types of players consistently again is something we will learn some years in the future when we have first become a middle Big Ten program in the years to come. The only team we play this week is not Alabama. One win at a time, one week at a time, one step forward at a time. Period.

Win 6 games? Who? Not the Gophers. They went head to head with only other D1 team worse than them, and it went into 3OT's!

"Let's wait until we see how they do against conference teams."---Sorry, but after watching the other conference teams this past weekend, I'm not too worried.
