Patrick Reusse: Will Vikings' youth movement actually work?

Much has been made of the Vikings stockpiling draft picks in recent years, but we have to wait to see how many of them turn out to be any good.

It is a COP OUT excuse for the failure of the Vikings front office (Rick Spielman) and owner Wilf. The Vikings went from Superbowl contender to last place in about a years time. They have no hope for winning the division this year, and they will finish last for the 3rd year in a row. WE ARE NOW THE NEW DETROIT LIONS. Thanks Rick and Zygi for destroying this once proud franchise.

One last point. You do realize that when you have crappy personnel to begin with, of course your draft choices, even the mediocre ones, will replace the existing stiffs. If for no other reason than to save Zygi money. Rick Spielman has really ruined the personnel on this team and all you have to do is google Rick Spielman Miami Dolphins to get a much better take on the history he has of making significant personnel mistakes. They threw him out of Miami, and if we finish last again this year, Minnesota should do the exact same.

Patrick, nothing will turn this loser jinxed franchise until thier is a major overhaul of the current low budget front office and amatuer coaching staff. Their is no hiding the fact that the vikings are being run from a New Jersey mansion by the clueless Wilfs who's 51% majority ownership has become the laughingstock of the NFL and a textbook case on how not to run a winning franchise on the field. Get ready for yet another last place finish in the NFC North!!!

"For all anyone knows, Spielman could be putting together a product that will turn the Purple into Lions West -- a team that moves into last place in the NFC North and holds on to it fiercely." ---- Spielman has been ordered to put the cheapest possible product on the field in order to reap the largest financial gains. Why should the front office even TRY and produce a quality product when hundreds of millions of OUR MONEY has already been guaranteed? Skol to the fans sitting on their horns in ignorance.

Like NHL coach Ken Hitchcock said, "Young players improve with every game while Old players get older with every game."

Here we go again, the built in excuse about being young and making mistakes. The only thing we are missing is"we will look at the tape and clean things up and all of our mistakes are correctable" Its a win now league fellas, fans are not going to put up and pay for excuses.

When this franchise was great we had an iconic GM (Jim Finks) making the personnel moves and an iconic head coach (Bud Grant)leading those players. Can we really say the same about Spielman and Frazier? We had a chance to solidify the head coaching position when we had Tomlin. We should have fired Childress at that point and made Tomlin the head coach, instead we let him walk and look at the result - Childress hanging on to Jackson as if he were a diamnond and not drafting any developmental QB's, and of course the hardly awe inspiring Frazier . We haven't had a good GM since Finks, who was a great GM. The one question you have to ask about Spielman is if his track record was bad at Miami, what would make you think that he won't continue to make the same errors in judgment about players? Not only is a QB essential to having a winning team (look at the QB's that have won the Super Bowl the last 40 years - a veritable who's who of Hall of Fame quarterbacks) but you need a GM and head coach of equally large accomplishment. Considering this it is hard to see that light ahead for the Vikings when you consider Spielman and Frazier are at the controls.

I'll be staying away, more should do the same and Mabe Ziggy will figure it out.

When they cut Rosenfels you could figure out what the are doing. It's to run this once proud team on the cheap. It worked for Red Mc Combs and I guess the Wilf's think it will work for them. 3 unproven, untested quarterbacks?

The youth movement is the right way to go. It was clear after 2010 that the team needed to move in a very new direction. With th NFC North having 3 teams with players in their peak, the Pack,, the Bears and the Lions, I think the Vikes are better off building a new base of talent from the ground up rather than signing a bunch of retread free agents trying to keep up with these guys. For me as a fan, I want to to see which of these young players stand out and form a new core that the Vikes can build around. Reality check, the Vikes will be a better fourth place team than last year.
