Great article about some great guys. Well written! I am not a goose hunter, but do relate well to the parts of the day where you are gathered around the table with an appetite from the hard day's work and you are looking forward to the evening hunt. The companionship, beauty of fresh air, and nostalgia of our sport are captured here nicely. Holt, his brother Riley, and their dad Mike were instrumental in coaching me through my introduction to turkey hunting. I am ever grateful. Articles like this and solid hunters like Holt, Sam and Ryan (Riley, too!) entice youngsters to tag along with their folks. Thank you, Mr. Anderson. I do have one complaint: the inclusion of the explanation of the splitting of the goose breast with cream cheese, hot peppers, bacon and grilling was too much. I am warming up my grill. It is 8:30AM. Sunday. And, I have no goose. Humph!

My kids were hesitant to hunt geese as they had read in some socialist rag that geese mate for life. They felt better about things when we were able to kill a mated pair, thus leaving no goose alive to "morn". Teaching the next generation the joy to be had killing animals is an American tradition. I just hope the do-gooders don't take that away from us. Wonderful article, Mr. Anderson. I believe that all suburban and rural children should be trained in the use of firearms.
