More will be issued by lottery, so fewer whitetail does will be taken as part of the latest herd buildup effort.

Could it be that harvest numbers are down due to the fact that hunters are down in number? The new generation doesn't seemed to be as interested in deer hunting as the 40+ segment of the population. Hunting land is increasingly difficult to find, increased regulation discourages hunters, new laws that are confusing discourage hunters, and processing costs are prohibitive to some. I think the assumption the DNR is making is that less deer were taken, and therefore the deer numbers are down. I think people are losing interest in the highly regulated sport of deer hunting.

Last years low harvest had a lot to do with the near gale force winds that blew statewide all of the opening weekend. Anyone who seriously understands deer knows high winds means little movement.

Please keep the deer in good hands. It seems like the DNR is doing a great job in doing so. I enjoy deer hunting, not just because of the actual hunt itself, but the opportunity to get outside and enjoy mother nature. And, yes, I have shot a deer every year for the past 15 years or so.

Grow the herd? Where? Deer anywhere near the metro (the 9 county area - yes, I get around) are at nuisance levels and have to be damaging the growth of the flora. Put some mineral blocks out to make all the BIG RACK hunters happy and leave it at that. TOO MANY DEER ALREADY!!

a few years ago in many areas you could shoot a deer then go buy another tag, or hunt in any area allowing two to three deer, now they have to manage the herd? evidently the dnr needs "managing"
