The senior QB is supposed to be the leader of an improving team, but his passes were all over the place.

The frustrating thing about Gray is that on a few passes he hit his receiver perfectly in stride on a crossing or wheel route. Then the next play he would roll out and throw a pass ten feet over the head of a wide open Gopher. Seems like a class act, but he extra weight he appears to be packing might be neutralizing his speed as well. Made a great play to get out of a potential sack late in the game and then got tackled in the open field by a fat d-lineman. Without that running ability he's not much of a threat.

Gray is no Weber. Shortell showed far better accuracy last season and he should be given some series to improve against the small schools and let Gray be an optional runner.

They would have lost by 40 to a real team. I'll take a win, but that was embarrassing.

Gray's accuracy was pathetic. So many chances with receivers who were completely wide open and he completely overthrows them. He had a few nice ones too, but when they were bad, they were really bad. The win is nice, but if he passes like that in Big Ten play, they won't win a single conference game.

Put Gray at RB where he belongs. At 250 lbs he would be a force and could be an option passer. The Gophers are a last place team with him as a QB. Some things never change

They won't win a Big Ten game if Gray plays like that. I was at the game 12 rows up on the 50 yard line and he was awful in regulation! Killed momentum and took away rhythm. A decent passing QB and that game is about 30 to 3. A lot of his throws weren't even within 5 feet of the target. The receivers didn't even have a chance. It amazed me on the 2 deep balls to Freuchte (spelling) that Gray doesn't know to put some air under the ball. Throw the darn thing up into the sky with some arc and let your receiver (who both times was 5 yards behind the defender) run under the ball and walk into the endzone. Instead he throws line drives and they have no chance. Again, if Gray doesn't improve in his passing significantly he won't finish the season and he won't win a big ten game.

Who is the quaterback coach and why hasn't the man gotten' through to him by now? It gets to the point where their games become unwatchable.

Gray had a better completion percentage and more passing yards than Heisman hopeful Denard Robinson averaged last year, and had about 80 percent of his rushing yards. 2 to 1 TD to interception ratio. His goal was to complete 60 percent of his passes vs just over 50 percent last year. He was at 57 percent. Andre McDonald gave up on the route if you watch the replay. A great game? No. Acceptable? For the first game of the year, on the road, and getting a win...yes. He made a bunch of bad throws, but get used to him, he is the best QB on the team, and the Gophers will go as far as he takes them.

Gray is not now nor ever has been a consistently capable Big TenQB andnever will be as even old Blowhard Brewster recognized. He is very good athelte who should be a receiver who can run after the catch but the Gophers will once again go nowhere if Gray continues to be the QB All of the hype about his improvement clearly was just that, hype, as he quickly regressed to his missing wide open receivers with potential scores that could have put the game out of reach early on. Kill has to give Gray a fair chance but as a senior who has not improved at all, it will quickly be time to play Shortell to be fair to the team and especially, to the recievers. They simply cannot win big in the conference with Gray at QB. All of those whiners who always wanted Gray to play rather than Weber (now in the NFL) have now been able to see why the coaches have been reluctant to play him...he just is not even an average D-1 QB.

People were "whining" because Weber was a lousy D1 QB. He consistently threw the ball at the feet of receivers on 7 yard crossing patterns. Grey gave them some spark a couple of times so it is only natural to look for someone else. Well now we know. Grey is worse. Really, really, bad throws to wide open receivers in this game. Should have been a total blowout. Defense looks pretty good though. Much improved. Lets not try to make Weber look like a good college QB though. He was not(although the Brewster fiasco with OC's sure didn't help). He was cut by the Bronco's by the way.
