WHAT THE LAW SAYS
Sound like a mosque is just like a . . .church. Except on Friday instead of Sunday. I have three churches in my neighborhood which means I get no parking spot in front of my house until about 2pm. Who do I sue?
The property tax exemption for churches, (maybe all non-profits), needs repeal. These are large institutions who use, rely upon, and expect ALL the services, (maybe even MORE than the usual citizen, that localities, and the institutions of society have developed, and provide. I don't care if there are churches in my neighborhood, whatever kind. But they should be paying their way, as a using part of society.
The real "substantial burden" is that taxpayers have to pick-up the tab for people's superstitious practices. The real "substantial burden" is that, even in the 21st Century, citizens are still hampered by unconstitutional Sunday closing laws and Blue Laws. Places of worship should be given no special status over any other building and should be taxed!
Churches save hundreds millions every year on not paying property taxes on the billions in real estate they own. They may claim to use this money to help the poor but really the burden is just shifted to the poor because they have to pay more in property taxes. By having to support the infrastructure of roads, sidewalks, maintenance for roads and sidewalks and services that churches use just like every homeowner and commercial property owner does.... The rest of the community has to pick up the tab for those things the church uses. Because of this people are forced through higher taxes to support a religion they may not even agree with. People need to start thinking about this and churches need to grow a conscience and some morals and start helping with this stuff. If you use something you have to pay for it. Religion is not an excuse to get out of paying the tab on what you use. Not for any reason.
