Just so we're clear - a new tax in 2013 is why they are laying off these people.

More proof that the private sector is doing just fine. Here's an idea; What do you say we get someone in the White House that actually understand capitalism and the private sector? I know some of you think it's hard to fault Obama's results, but any more of these kinds of results, and we will be bankrupt.

I would rather see ongoing jobs than a new tax!

This story should have noted that these layoffs are the predictable response to the sizable legal and customer bills St. Jude has (and will have) as a result of last December's recall of its faulty Riata defibrillation leads. St. Jude's legal costs, patient reimbursement costs, and lost business costs (MDs no longer wish to use St. Jude leads) will far exceed the savings from these STJ layoffs. The list is getting long of those paying for STJ's faulty leads: patients, insurers (and everyone who pays for insurance), Medicare/Medicaid (taxpayers) and now STJ employees. Wonder if those who designed, touted and led STJ's Riata lead sales are now paying some kind of price, as well.

Imagine that. Layoffs to pay for the Obamacare tax. Senators Klobuchar and Franken voted for this boondoggle. I would like to see them both personally explain to these laid off workers just why taxing medical devices was a brilliant idea. This is just the beginning of the "unintended" consequences of gov't taking over healthcare. There will be many more unless this mess is repealled.

mikes1971 - Just so we're clear - a new tax in 2013 is why they are laying off these people. --------------- Which makes it nothing more than a political move and not necessary layoffs.

WOW, Wiliam16 thinks its all St Judes fault. another Liberal that blames everyone else! THe story clearly says the layoffs are a direct result to get back the amount of tax they have to spend on net revenue through the new Obamacare tax!

From the Star Tribune on March 2nd: ST. JUDE MEDICAL INC. Daniel Starks, chairman, president, CEO Total compensation: $3,091,325 for the year ended Dec. 31 I wonder if he'll be taking a pay cut to save some of the jobs?

jp, what the story DOESN'T say is why it was necessary to lay off the Middle Class to pay for this supposed additinal tax. But fools like you just keep lapping up the drool of the 1%. And with logic like that, you're far more likely to join the bottom 1% and the top 1%.k
