We, yes, we, spent $16 Billion to improve the levee system and with a Cat I storm that the officials say they were 'blindsided' by slowing up we are now ripping a hole in the structure to intentionally flood some homes? Yes, some will be saved, but does anyone else question the endless pouring of money into a system that is proven incapable of withstanding another storm, a mere 7 years after the big redo of Louisiana? Where did these guys get their engineering degrees? Or, maybe we should acknowledge there are places that will flood, despite our efforts, and forbid or at least not pay for rebuilding there.

The levee that has been opened is not a leeve that was built with the Federal money. The leeve system and pumping system build in New Orleans with Federal money held. Just thought you would like to know!! I assume that you have an engineering degree since you know so much about building levees.

I have to ask, where is Obama and the media? Doesn't he care about death and destuction in America? Or does he only care when it is a state where he can win electoral votes? I don't think he cares about states that are in dire need but may be lost to Rommney?

Well, at least we don't have to worry about replacing their homes this time. Most of them haven't moved out of the federal housing that they moved into after Katrina. Money cant fix stupid or lazy.

"...is not a leeve that was built with the Federal money" -- so great, NOW the leeve will need to be rebuilt (with Federal taxpayer money) to protect a toliet of a city that is BELOW sea level. Where'd you get your engineering degree? Mine tells me don't pour money into a never-ending money pit.

Be thankful Louisiana that Obama is president because if Romney was leading the show, you'd all be left to fend for yourselves. It's freedom baby and every man for themselves according to the GOP. Listen to what they're saying...their idea of freedom is the wild wild west days before electricity and the internal combustion engine. Good luck ya all.

Good luck ya all.............I am going to guess you are posting this in jest, as no one really believes what you are implying. But, if you were actually serious, the GOP believes in self-reliance and neighbor helping neighbor when times are tough. The government is not needed here, nor would government assistance be efficient. Believe it or not, there was a time when American's rolled up their own sleeves and solved their own problems, without any aid from brain dead bureaucrats in DC. The people who live there, chose to live there, and they should be expected to bear the brunt of all costs for clean up. That is only fair.
