Seriously, who cares? It's a fake badge for what has been a fake company since BBY bought it. On top of it, it's unlikely the bidding will top 100 bucks but best of luck to this guy anyhow.

I don't understand why this is news. This badge is like a paper Burger King hat (remember those, youngsters?) Really, who cares?

The assumption that selling the badge might prove offensive is kind of weird. Why would someone be offended by that?

I hope goes well for him, if he is truely a great person that can fix computers; but they should check into the guy first to find out if this guy is truely a geek, or just the paper pusher that they have behind the counters in BB stores. The paper pushers don't do anything beside put a disk into your computer to find the issue, the true geeks are back at the main facility that actually fixes the computers. I'm sure some of the paper pushers can do some things, but are not all the knowledgeable.

And the winning bidder will then be relentlessly pressured to have the badge 'optimized' for another hundred bucks. And after _that_, he'll be pushed to buy a service plan for it, to keep it shiny and new.

I was going to say "The badges should be turned in to receive your last paycheck otherwise the buyer might impersonate a Geek Squad agent". After reading these posts I can see that wouldn't be a profitable idea.

I love the comment from the CEO about how he hopes people move on for "at least twice the pay," implying that Geek Squad massively underpays their techs.

I think the real news story would be if someone actually pays $1000 for the thing!

@twinkiejo I worked for the business services part of Geek Squad doing server implementationsand migrations, VOIP, project management, VIP customers, and helping outside sales with complex quotes. Besides 15 years IT experience with programming and networking, I am MCSE, A+, Network+, and Server+ certified as well as a Microsoft Small Business Specialist. The Special Agent badges were not handed out as part of the uniform. They had to be earned and a comprehensive technical test passed before you could order your badge.

It is his and he can do with it whatever he wants. However, as a collectable, I wouldn't even consider any that was created after Best Buy bought Geek Squad. .................................................................................................................................................................................... The founder of Geek Squad had a great idea but it got diluted when the "agents" moved into a commodity level at all the stores. A friend bought her first laptop at a Best Buy based on their "name" even though I suggested that we also check at a real computer store. It constantly having problems and the "knowledgeable" Geek Squad were never able to make it reliable, including telling her that there was damage to the mother board when the "fix" actually was a set of keystrokes. ....................................................................................................................................................................... Her new computer was bought from a computer store where the owner actually knows how to make them run well.
