Hartman: Mauer's value could help rebuild Twins

I don't think they'll trade him, but the club needs lots of pitchers and players to turn around two dismal seasons.

Of course the Twins can't / won't comment - because it is against the rules! As for Mauer getting beat up by the press - if he thinks it's bad here - try Boston or NY - they'll eat him for breakfast. This reminds me of the Twins in the 80's maybe 86 or 88, when they put Puckett on waivers. McPhail could not comment but he basically said we put every player on waivers at some point in July, just in case. 90% get pulled back 10% get traded or given to another team or sent down to AAA.

Putting Joe on waivers must have lit a fire under his $$$. Two BIG hits tonight.

Sid's kiss of death. Does anyone remember the headline "Holtz may leave, but I don't think so?"

When the Pohlads got the vote for a new taxpayer paid stadium, by promising to pay an additional $20-25 million per year on free agents and players, I predicted: Pohlads would milk the new stadium for 3-5yrs. Around 3 years they would start cutting payroll. When fans got tired of paying big money to watch a Triple A club the Pohlads would start entertaining offers to sell the club. Major league team (sic)playing in a new stadium has increased value of team 10 fold. They are still milking the stadium although attendance is starting to slip. They cut salaries by dumping players and are now putting out feelers for the Baby Jesus. People laughed when I predicted this 5-6 years ago but so far everything is going as....predicted. Quit fooling yourselves, the Pohlads have always been and will always be all about money.

Fire Gardy, hire Molitor, and see if Baby Jesus, Justin, and the rest don't start playing with more gusto.

Mauer's worth to the Twins is greater on a poor team. He's the primary reason many casual fans watch Twins on TV or attend a game. He's the face of the franchise and homegrown Hall of Famer. Trade the rest of the bums.

Mauer ws upset with the fans, Sid? The peole who gave him 184 milliuon dollars to lay baseball at a certain level he never lived up to? Mauer was upset? I'll be thee's a locker room of upset players along with the fans who voluntarily fork over money to him as well as the taxpayers who do so invilunarily through the sales tax.

At $23 million per year, Mauer has no trade value and Sid has to know that. The Twins would have to cover at least $8 million per year of his contract to get any interest.

If the Twins traded him they would give him away. I can see it now, "Twins trade Mauer for prospects".

Silly me, I just don't get billionaires with inherited wealth. Can't they up the budget for the Twins and bring in some better players and pay for it easily? What's the yearly interest on their wealth? Couldn't they do it without even touching principal? Just sayin'.
